Montgomery Township has worked to ensure that ideas, issues, policies and education to a level where local laws and policies, reflect their goals for the community. Through work with the Association and on their own, Montgomery Township has already accomplished goals that create a higher quality of life for residents in their town.
Some of Montgomery’s accomplishments include:
- Updating the Septic System Management Ordinance, an ordinance that is one of only eight that exist statewide. Using this ordinance, the township’s Board of Health works to monitor and enforce maintenance of septic systems to ensure that ground water and drinking water remain healthy.
- Revamping the Non Point Source Pollution Control Ordinance, an ordinance that protects existing natural areas. Using this ordinance, the township is working to limit the amount of paved areas and increase the amount of rainwater that is able to soak back into the ground.
- Reworking Critical Areas Ordinance to protect water quality and soil health by regulating uses in flood plains, stream corridors, and on steep slopes. The ordinance is accompanied by a Critical Areas Map as part of the Township’s Master Plan
MUNICIPAL ASSESSMENT
Montgomery Township entered into the Association’s Program for Municipal Excellence in February 2002. The township is also working to enforce laws and regulations on the books to ensure their success.
